Southern Railway Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026
Southern Railway has released a notification for 4,471 Act Apprentice posts under the Apprentices Act, 1961. This is a training engagement, not permanent employment. Online applications are open from 28 August to 27 September 2026 at sr.indianrailways.gov.in.
The vacancies are divided into Fresher (163 posts) and Ex-ITI (4,308 posts) across Carriage and Wagon Works Perambur, Central Workshop Ponmalai, S and T Workshop Podanur, Railway Hospital Perambur, and multiple divisions. Candidates must reside within Southern Railway jurisdiction (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, A and N Islands, Lakshadweep, parts of AP and Karnataka).
The stipend ranges from ₹8,200 to ₹9,600 per month. Selection is based on a merit list. Application fee is ₹100 for General/OBC candidates. SC/ST/PwBD and Women candidates are exempted.

Eligibility Criteria
- Who Can Apply: Candidates residing within Southern Railway jurisdiction (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, A and N Islands, Lakshadweep, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor districts of AP, Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka)
- Age Limit: 15 to 22 years (24 years for MLT) as on 28 August 2026
- Age Relaxation: OBC-NCL 3 years, SC/ST 5 years, PwBD 10 years
- Fresher Qualification: 10th pass with 50% aggregate (50% not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD)
- Ex-ITI Qualification: 10th pass with 50% + ITI in relevant trade with NCVT/SCVT certificate
- Physical Fitness: Must meet standards under Schedule-II of Apprenticeship Rules, 1992

Southern Railway Act Apprentice 2026 — Selection Process
Selection is based on a Merit List:
- Fresher: Matriculation marks converted to 200
- Ex-ITI: Matriculation marks (100) + ITI marks (100) = 200 total
- MLT: Higher Secondary marks (PCM + Biology) converted to 200
- Tie-breaker: Older candidate preferred; if same DOB, earlier Matriculation pass date preferred
